Live session: December 13, 2023 11:30 am
- 12:30 pm

Significant mental health disparities have been documented within LGBTQIA+ communities, many of which are the direct result of stigma.  Interpreters can and do contribute to this stigma, even inadvertently.  This webinar will examine common assumptions about gender and sexuality, as well as how these biases can affect the application of interpreting ethical principles.  Attendees will ultimately develop a personalized action plan for how they can provide ethical and affirming interpretation services to diverse communities.

After attending this webinar participants will be able to:

1) Outline the mental health disparities experienced by the LGB, trans, gender nonconforming, and intersex communities, as well as how interpreters can contribute to these disparities.

2) Identify common assumptions about gender and sexuality, as well as how they can affect the application of interpreting ethical principles.

3) Create an action plan for how the interpreter will provide ethical and affirming interpretation services to diverse communities.
