As technology evolves and expectations surrounding language access change, interpreters must consider what the future of their profession requires. This webinar connects the enduring human dimensions of interpreting with the importance of continuous professional growth, inviting participants to reflect on how they can adapt thoughtfully and contribute to the profession’s future.
Through professional storytelling, practical examples, and guided reflection, participants will explore how interpreting supports understanding, participation, and connection in communication shaped by culture, emotion, relationships, power, and context. The session will examine four professional capacities - whole body listening, contextual awareness, ethical judgment, and interactional competence - and their relevance to navigating complex interactions.
Participants will also consider how individual development contributes to collective professional growth. Shared learning, constructive feedback, mentorship, and collaboration will be explored as opportunities to strengthen practice and develop adaptability. Technology will form part of this conversation, encouraging thoughtful consideration of how new tools can support purposeful professional practice.
Designed for interpreters across experience levels and settings, this webinar will help participants recognize the value they bring to human communication, identify an area for continued development, and establish a concrete next step. Together, these reflections will encourage participants to approach professional growth with intention and take an active role in shaping the interpreting profession's future.
