So many hats over the years! Mom and Grandmother, Veterinarian, Congresswoman, Educator, Writer, Interpreting Trainer, Hybrid Immigrant, Volunteer and Survivor!
I have more than 20 years of vast experience teaching Spanish, not just on a privately basis, but also in schools, colleges and the Defense Language Institute from which I have the ICC and IRC Certifications. I have also taught Spanish at DLI San Antonio, TX, and Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska. Organized and taught Intensive Immersion Course for an Army group headed to Honduras, which included, not just Basic Language Skills but also knowledge of the country of destination. In addition, I have also taught grammar, interpreting and translation at the Hispanic National University in San Jose, CA. My experience with languages extends to being a professional interpreter and translator and an instructor in Public Speaking. I recently designed and conducted a workshop on Public Speaking, Translation and Interpreting Basic Skills at Travis Air Force Base, CA. I am an expert in the political situation in Venezuela and other Latin American countries and have made presentations (by invitation) at Rotary Clubs, Communities and U.S. Political Party’s Organizations. I was President of the Veterinary School Student’s Body and a Congress Representative. I have also published two short stories’ and a novela (Secretos de Confesión), “Half and Half†Short Stories in English and Spanish, “IMPosible†(in Spanish) and was published in the Rainshadow Poetry 2016 Anthology after winning a Poetry Contest and also 33 Cuentos Hispanos (2021). Computer Skills are important to accomplish all the above achievements. I am an expert using mostly Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Social Media and Project Management. In 2015 I walked solo the Camino de Santiago from Portugal to Spain, a pilgrimage practiced since the Middle Ages. I had a radio talk show and wrote for a National Newspaper, Revista Estampas, for over six years.
