I am the manager of the MUSC Health Interpreter Training Center and a licensed interpreter trainer. I have over 15 years of experience working as an interpreter and over 10 years of experience as an interpreter trainer. I am an American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter by trade and hold national Interpreter Certification (NIC) from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) and CoreCHITM from the Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters (CCHI). I have also received specialized training in mental health interpreting from the Mental Health Interpreter Training Program (MHIT) based out of Alabama.
In my role as an interpreter trainer, I strive to help interpreters to continue to reflect on their interpreting work and why they made the decisions they did, whether it be a word choice or ethical behavior. I continuously thrive in understanding how best to serve the interpreting community around me, and share my passion and experiences in the classroom, providing a safe and beneficial learning environment for all aspiring interpreters.
