About Me:
I’ve worked as a staff interpreter at the Medical University of South Carolina since 2003 and hold national certification in healthcare interpreting (CCHI) and translation (ATA). When MUSC Health started an interpreter training program in 2016, I was given the opportunity to bring my interpreting experience and my background in teaching together in a training environment. My path to interpreting started after I completed my graduate studies and was teaching Spanish language and Latin American literature at the University of Kansas and the College of Charleston. I became involved as a bilingual volunteer in different community settings and saw the importance of language access first-hand. Those experiences made such an impression that I decided to change course and become an interpreter. My work experience since then has been one of continuous learning and training as an interpreter and interpreter trainer in the areas of community interpreting, interpreting in palliative care, and medical terminology for interpreters. I look forward to sharing my experience with you as you explore your interest in interpreting as a profession and consider becoming a professional interpreter.
