Manuela grew up in a bilingual household, learning both English and Spanish simultaneously. Having spent her childhood going back and forth between Guatemala and the United States, she learned to straddle both worlds and move seamlessly between two languages and cultures.
As a high school student in her native Guatemala, she began working as a translator (English Spanish) for a child sponsorship program. She then began her professional career coordinating medical interpreter services for immigrants in Washington, DC.
Manuela holds a BA in International Relations from the University of Colorado, as well as Master of Public Health and Master of Public Administration degrees from the University of Michigan. She is a Certified Health Care interpreter through the Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters (CCHI) and is currently working on also becoming a certified translator. Manuela is a member of the Colorado Translators Association and the American Translators Association.
