About Me:
I interpret Spanish English and also speak Italian which I learned informally from my family and some formal studies at USC and the University of Urbino, Italy. In 2003 I graduated from USC with a BA in Spanish and Latin American Studies and then again in 2008 with an MA in Cultural Anthropology. Between my BA and my MA I studied at the Universidad Latina de America in Morelia, Michoacán Mexico and worked on a project to promote healthy lifestyles among families in the local community. I served previously on the board of the South Carolina Hispanic Latino Health Coalition (SCHLHC) in 2009 and 2010. While my work as an interpreter began as a volunteer in the mid-90s I began working formally as an interpreter in 2007 as I was working toward my MA. After graduating in 2009 I accepted my current position as Interpreter Coordinator at Lexington Medical Center. I am certified through the Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters (CCHI) and a licensed trainer for the Cross Cultural Health Care Program’s Bridging the Gap Medical Interpreter training and Cross-Cultural Communication’s, The Community Interpreter training. I have been training medical interpreters in the Bridging the Gap curriculum since 2011 and am looking forward to incorporating this new curriculum with CCC to trainings for my staff and interpreters in the community.
