Mateo Rutherford

Mateo has been a freelance conference interpreter since 1987, working throughout the US, Latin America, Europe, and Asia. He managed the Interpreting Services Dept. at UCSF Health for 11 years, where he launched multiple language improvement programs. He has a master’s degree in Biology (UC Berkeley) and in Spanish Interpretation & Translation (Monterey Institute of International Studies). Mateo has taught Translation & Interpretation in Ecuador and currently teaches Biology and Medical Interpreting at Laney College in Oakland, CA and for the Oregon Health Care Interpreting Association. He has presented at conferences throughout the US, Central America and the Caribbean. Mateo is a nationally certified Healthcare Interpreter (Spanish-CHI™), and is a member in good standing of the American Translator’s Association (ATA), the California Healthcare Interpreting Association (CHIA) and the National Council on Interpreting in Health Care (NCIHC) and Chair Emeritus of the Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters (CCHI).
