2025 Free Webinar Series: #12 Making the Right Call: Framing Ethical and Effective Decision-Making for Interpreters

Live session: December 10, 2025 11:30 am
- 12:30 pm
Presenter: Daniel Halberg

This webinar introduces interpreters to the “Demand Control Schema” a conceptual framework that they can use to analyze and classify the varied demands that they face during assignments. The Schema also assists them in identifying the “controls” or strategies they can use to mitigate those challenges. DCS sessions ask interpreters to reflect on their lived experiences and prior training to reinforce best practices and ethical, effective decision-making. This overview will present the basic outline of DCS and arm participants with the tools to continue pursuing optimal choices during interpreting sessions.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the Demand-Control Schema Framework through exploration of examples that illustrate the core concepts.
  • Learn how to apply DCS to real-world interpreting situations and practice applying the model in a sample encounter
  • Improve ethical decision-making and professional practices
  • Discuss calibrating ethical choices

ASL Interpreters will be provided!

This webinar is approved for 1 CCHI CE hour, 0.1 IMIA/NBCMI CEU, 1 ATA CEP and 0.1 RID CEU*.
